Sex in a hostel...

I'm in Prague now. It is an absolutely fantastic city. It is so beautiful I never had any idea. It's really neat to see the cities that were largely untouched by the wars and still retain their medieval charm. Prague is definitely one of those cities.

I travelled here with a buddy, Bam, from Budapest. We were almost late for our train and were just booking it through the train station like idiots with our bags on....only to make the train with thirty seconds to spare......only to find it was delayed by ten minutes....balls.

The hostel I'm in is not really a hostel. It's more like a hotel with 6 beds in a room. Seriously, the bathrooms have faithful green tiles with one of the shower heads mounted in the ceiling that shoots straight down on you. Amazing.

We did the free walking tour. Which was pretty great. The guide was fun and she taught us a lot. We also did the pub crawl that night. I barely spend any money on pub crawls. This one cost 15$ and you started with 2.5 hours of unlimited free beer. Yea that's right y'all...free beer! (I just used y'all in a sentence and it makes me happy)

The bar was in the upstairs of a church too. Dangerously sinful? I like it. They had beer pong tables set up and Bam and I, having practiced in Budapest, cleaned up.We played against what we thought were a couple from Australia. Turns out, again, they weren't. Elliot and Rachel and a guy they had met Steve. Elliot and Steve are really cool, Rachel is awesome as well, and really pretty. Damn Aussies. We then hat the unfortunate task of taking one of our own home early. Another girl travelled with us here and she's only 18. We met her in Budapest and again here. She's a ton of fun as well....although needs to work on her pacing, as Bam and I had to take her back to the hostel at like 10pm. We returned to the crawl after that meeting up with Rache, Elliot and Steve and the rest of the night was a ton of fun.

Toured prague castle yesterday with Ruby, Bam, Elliot and Rache. Saw the most beautiful cathedral I've ever seen i think. It was mostly beautiful gothic architecture. Like a school of late gothic employing fantastic and huge flying buttresses (think notre dame) and huge stain glassed windows. After giving everyone a brief architecture lesson (obviously coming from me it wasn't that brief) we went inside. The windows were just amazing. Probably the biggest ones I've ever seen. What really struck me was the blue colours in the windows. The most famous colour of stained glass window is Chartres blue. It was developed around 1350 in the French town of Chartres for their new gothic cathedral (one by which most gothic architecture is held against). This blue used red ones in it to really stand out in a window. More or less the blue "pops" so much it us the first thing that draws your eye. It was first employed in Chartres and gave it's name to the colour of blue. (I love being nerdy and watching national geographic)

Anyways, the windows were amazing.

Last night the 5 of us did the beer challenge. Basically a lesson in Czech beers (try drink the most beer in the world). We went to 4 different Czech bars and tried their most famous Czech beers. It was great. Also it's really interesting to learn about different drinking cultures.

At the end of the tour the guy stopped us and asked each person to pick a person they liked in the tour. It was weird because we didn't know each other that well, only spending 4 hours together in a group of 15. Either way, for some reason or other, yours truly was chosen the most. Not sure why but I guess I sorta talked to everyone. For "winning" i was given a free tour pass to all tours that this company does!! They do a free tour in most cities and the free tour introduces you to usually 3-4 other more specialized tours. Such as going to Dachow in munich or a pub crawl in Prague. It's sweet! Imagine giving ME free tours! I'll lap that shit UP!

That brings us to....sex in a hostel.


It's a very strange thing to stay in a hostel. Changing and sleeping above, below, or within arms reach of 5-7 people you've never met. There are sort of unspoken rules most people try to uphold. Including: No naked sleeping or walking around, quiet when coming in late, and not waking your roommates whilst plowing someone you have just met.

Unfortunately not all of these rules are always upheld. I have been woken up at 4am to drunks coming home. I have seen things I have to block out of my head regarding lack of clothing. But up until last night I had avoided the whole roomate sex thing.

I suppose one can't be lucky forever. I suppose having sex in a hostel would be tricky. I never thought about where, how, noise or anything. Unfortunately, some people don't give a shit.

I am on the bottom bunk at this hostel. Last night I was woken to my bed rocking slowly and softly back and forth. In my sleepy serene state I figured I had just moved into a hammock. Logical i know. But when i re-opened my eyes i realized it was infact not really moving slowly, it was kinda shaking and jostling about....and then came the noise. Some guys apparently make some very strange sex noises. This guy sure did. The girl sure wasn't quiet either.

What can i do I though? Earplugs! No. Shit, they're locked up in my locker. Pillow over the head? Still rocking, and very loud now. Fuck! What do i do!? Luckily the guy was...a little over-eager and I didn't have to bear it for long. But god. Not a pleasant experience.

Ladies and gents, if I may ask. If you are going to screw in a hostel. Remember what your mother told you.....do unto others as you would have them do to you. That goes for your partner and the poor Canadian boy in the bunk below you.
